Alton Towers Resort "Rainy Day Guarantee" Advert Breaches Rules

Alton Towers Resort has been told by the Advertising Standards Authority to change an advert on their website for its ‘Rainy Day Guarantee’ as it broke the Advertising Standards Authority rules.

The Rainy Day Guarantee allows thrill-seekers the opportunity to return to Alton Towers Resort for free if the ride availability at the Resort is impacted by the weather.

However, the Advertising Standards Authority said that the offer wasn't clear enough and that it should required an hour of continuous rain.

A spokesperson for the Advertising Standards Authority said:

“We considered that the requirement for there to be at least one hour of continuous rain for the guarantee to be invoked was a significant limitation to the guarantee that should have been made clear in the ad.".

In response to this breach, a spokesperson for the Alton Towers Resort said:

"We took immediate steps to remove the offer from our website, so that we can fully review how it is communicated".

The Alton Towers Resort also said it took compliance seriously and has removed it from their website.

The Resort also advises that they are committed to provide thrill-seekers with memorable experiences and would bring back the ‘Rainy Day Guarantee’ in 2024 in line with Advertising Standards Authority guidelines and a clear explanation of this offer.
